While I’d agree with your general sentiment about cell phone service providers, it’s Apple’s fault that this won’t result in much difference in pricing. From the article:

While I’m happy to see Rogers lose its stranglehold, let’s not get too excited about this. The telcos have long refused to actually compete against one another, and I can guarantee that Darren Entwistle, George Cope and Ted Rogers’ ghost have already sat down somewhere, drank some scotch and smoked a few Cubans while discussing how not to have a price war.
Don’t expect any great phone or data plans…
